Internet access market will reach a value of $ 77 billion worldwide in 2006.

Stuttgart, Germany – 1st July, 2002 - Despite the weak telecom market environment in major parts of the World, the market for Internet access services is continuously increasing: from $30 billion in 2000, to $37 in 2001. For 2006 the market will more than double to an expected value of $77 billion.



As represented in Figure 1, within this market the large band access segment is the key driver while narrow band access revenues will stagnate from 2002 onwards. In 2006 45% of the overall Internet access revenues will be generated from narrow band customers, while 55% by the usage of large band access.

Among the different access technologies, xDSL will become the predominant solution at World level with more than 100 million connections worldwide.
