Development of cable modems and xDSL to remain country specific

Stuttgart, Germany - 2nd September, 2002 - According to InfoCom's analyses the provision of cable modems and xDSL will remain very different between countries. For instance, the relative differences in the development of cable modem versus xDSL in the Netherlands and Germany are expected to endure over the period to 2007. Only towards 2006 and 2007 will cable modems start catching up with xDSL in Germany, as cable modems continue to grow strongly while xDSL growth starts flattening. The gap between xDSL and cable modems is less striking in the Netherlands, but cable modem should nonetheless maintain its lead over xDSL in the period to 2007.

The respective strengths and weaknesses of local players, especially of the incumbent operator, the role of the local telecom regulators and the age and state of the cable infrastructure account for these continuing differences between countries.

This market outlook, among several others, comes from InfoCom's strategy journal TS&T (Telecoms Strategies and Trends). TS&T is a highly analytical telecoms publication that provides in depth articles on a variety of topics covering companies, markets & trends on a bi-monthly basis.
