Top-10 Equipment Manufacturers in the World in 2002
Stuttgart, Germany - 28th April 2003 - In 2002, Nokia was the number one manufacturer,
with revenues of $21bn, i.e. over 50%
more than the number two, Siemens. Nokia owes its status to continued share gains in
mobile infrastructure and even more significantly in mobile handsets. Performing quite
well in most business segments Siemens gained the second spot in 2002 and Ericsson
consequently dropped to third position, followed by Motorola. Motorola, Ericsson and
Siemens had revenues between $12bn and $14bn. Alcatel, NEC, Nortel and Lucent then
follow with revenues between $7bn and $10bn. All these manufacturers suffered from
the decline in operators' capex, particularly with regards to public switching,
line transmission and cables. Particularly thanks to its success in mobile terminals
Samsung ranked ninth and with $6bn revenues was already significantly below Lucent,
but nonetheless much higher than the number ten, Fujitsu, with revenues below the $4bn mark.
There are four European manufacturers in the Top-10, including the first three, against three
American, two Japanese and one Korean.
