Internet Service Providers: world-wide trends 1998-2004
December 2000
This article presents the trends and dynamics of the ISP markets in the various world regions, both in terms of market values and of user populations.
The quoted market values are extracted from the TELESEEQ database system and refer to revenues that are generated by ISPs for the provision of Internet access to business and residential customers. These revenues only include Internet access fees paid by users and such related services as domain administration and registration, mail address registration, etc. They do NOT comprise:
the cost of communications that users have to pay to telcos to access their ISP's Point of Presence;
compensation received by ISPs from telcos;
revenues generated by ISPs' marketing and advertising activities;
other non Internet-access related revenues, generated by VPN services, web-site design, systems integration, enterprise consulting, etc.
