Operators' strategies for mobile infrastructure

The mobile telecommunications market is currently typified by analysis and speculation regarding the merits and future development of 3G. A few key questions are being asked amongst a plethora of others pertaining to 3G: How will operators finance 3G and further, make it profitable? Will vendors be on schedule with infrastructure delivery? Is there actually adequate consumer demand? Will consumers be willing to pay for the services? And will governments ease regulatory obligations and allow for network sharing? Regardless of how these questions are answered, there can be no real suggestion of operator back-peddling. Indeed, having come this far with substantial investments already made in licenses, spectrum acquisitions, test infrastructure and, now, expensive infrastructure contracts, there is little other direction but aggressively forward for the embattled operator.
