While the text messaging dialogue portrayed below may appear cryptic to anyone who can read English, such a dialogue is typical in the Philippines where SMS, more popularly known as texting, has become the national preferred mode of communication. Filipinos communicate via text virtually everywhere, whether in public transports, churches, cinemas, shopping malls (abbreviated SM in the dialogue below), or even in workplaces.
