3Q06 mobile penetration and market shares in selected Western and Eastern European countries


Mobile population penetration
Fig. 1 shows the mobile penetration rates of a selection of 14 countries in Western and Eastern Europe at 3Q06. Ten of the selected countries exceeded 100% penetration, with Lithuania recording by far the highest mobile penetration rate with 167%. It is extremely likely that in Lithuania, as well as in some other countries, a fairly high share of inactive SIM cards are still counted in the subscriber figures, thus artificially boosting the penetration rates.
