Deutsche Telekom
History
The year 1990 is not only a milestone in German history, but also for the German incumbent —
nowadays called Deutsche Telekom AG. While the milestone for Germany meant re-unification,
for Deutsche Telekom it meant the opposite: segmentation. It is indeed in 1900 that the former
German postal and telecom utility separated its different activities — postal, telecom and
banking services — in three different entities. Five years later, the telecom entity received
its present name "Deutsche Telekom" in the context of its going public in 1996.
