Market snapshot: Croatia
As compared to other Eastern European countries the Croatian telecom market is fairly developed and advanced
and it has been one of the most dynamic branches of economy. The full liberalisation of the telecom sector
was realised in 2005 when the Croatian Telecommunications Agency started to regulate the fixed line sector.
The provision requires the incumbent T-Hrvatske Telekom (T-HT) to provide fully unbundled access to its local loop.
Competition in the mobile industry had been available sooner and intensified in 2006 as mobile operators started
competing more intensely on price. The broadband industry has experienced significant growth since 2005, which was
largely influenced by regulatory obligations for broader coverage and price reductions and was supported by
government efforts to encourage the use of the Internet through extensive marketing campaigns.
