Cable & Wireless Plc. (C&W) is probably the only operator in the world which can be truly defined as "global" (see Fig. 1). Its structure shows the two principal subsidiaries, Hong Kong Telecom and C&W Communications, and also a presence in more than 70 countries.
In order to improve its service level, the efficiency of its structure and its market image, C&W's strategy has been one of refocusing.
First an acquisition-disposal strategy was started, in order to increase control of strategic businesses and to divest other interests where C&W has no influence or control. In parallel, C&W is trying to transform itself into an IP network service provider for business customers - and the future strategy of the company will be directed to focus its efforts on this objective.
